Watching Highlander "Methusalem's Gift", it occurred to me Peter Wingfield would have made a great Doctor. Actually, he still could if/when David Tennant steps down.
I'm gonna start campaigning "Peter Wingfield as 11" :)

Okay first, for those of you who don’t know me in RL, I’ve been shaving my
head for the last 2 years or so. What can I say, some of the most handsome men I know do the same Andre Agassi, Mickael Chiklis, Bruce Willis, Natalie Portman...
see, that joke was actually funny at some point... around last may
Anyway back to the story:
Sister cut nephew’s hair last week end and yesterday he asked her when she
would be doing it again. She told him his hair was short enough and he said
“no it’s not, I want my hair like uncle Fred’s”.
He’s 4 fraking years old !!!

That was the latest in our show "nobody cares but I've got amazing nephews and at least one of them has amazing taste in hair cut" Considering the other is only 8 months old, I guess it's okay. He'll come around :)

And I realise I never posted any pictures.

here's the OD of cuteness (not dial up friendly) )

And since I've been tagged twice by [ profile] greenie_breizh and [ profile] wallen

What is yours?
Explain yourself
Culinary: Dulce de Leche ice cream and Foie Gras but not together.... Because they're frakin' awesome and delicious
Literary: Star Trek books, especially those by Peter David because they're fun and at some point they were the only way to get my fix of Trek and because I'm a geek
Audiovisual: Zombie Movies, even the crappy ones (especially the crappy ones) Oh come on !! Who doesn't like zombie movies ^^
Musical: Spice Girls I can help but dance around when I hear them. No party is complete without "Wanabee" or "Spice up your life" and it reminds me of happier times
Celebrity: Alyssa Milano (and in a less "guilty" extend, Candace Cameron) Always had a soft spot for the girls, I grew up watching Who's the Boss and later Full House. They were among my very first crushes

Now I tag:-

whoever guys, feel free !

to complete this same Quiz, Its HERE.

For the French guys on my flist (especially those about my age), France 2 is showing a "ca se discute" about those old French sitcoms and children shows. They've got half the casts !! And they're old (well not that much but still ^^)
And there's Corbier !! I think I'm 10 again :-)

I knew bosslady was into sci-fi and stuff (besides being the nicest and best looking boss I've had in years) but turns out überboss is a proper geek. We had a small talk after he saw me lending bosslady the Star Trek: First Contact DVD and he's the real deal. We spoke about the ST franchise, the new Battlestar Galactica (he's watching 2x18 tonight) and Babylon 5 (which he wants me to lend him). He's bringing me the first season of Stargate Atlantis tomorrow :)
My workplace is heaven on Earth and I get paid to go there.

And I realise I forgot to tell him about the new Who (will correct that tomorrow). Speaking of which, wasn't the new series supposed to start this month ? To celebrate, I'm getting the seventh doctor's episodes, anyone interested ??

Funny how one of the first thing I did when I got Internet back was to check IMDB to see if Andreas Katsulas was still alive. I've known for a few months now the end was near...

This evening I learnt he passed away on Monday from a lung cancer, he was only 59 bloody years old.

For those of you who didn't know him, he played G'Kar in Babylon 5 (and the one armed bad guy in the movie version of the Fugitive)

I feel dumb to be touched by the death of a guy I never even met but he had such an impact on me through his role.

Babylon 5 is the first show I fell in love with and we stuck together through my high school years.
I got dumped by my first serious girl friend and saw "Sleeping in Light" (the show finale) the very same day and those of you who have seen it... Well you know !
I did not cry of course because I'm that big hunk of a guy but, boy, did I have something in my eyes that day :)

Here are a few words of wisdom from citizen G'Kar (the guy had quite a few along the course of the show but I found these appropriate)

"I believe that when we leave a place a part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in these halls, when it is quiet and just listen. After a while you will hear the echoes of all of our conversations, every thought and word we've exchanged. Long after we are gone, our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit that the part of me that going will very much miss the part of you that is staying."

Farewell Andreas.

I got my hands on the Queen, Live at Wembley 1986 video (isn't broadband a great thing ?). I saw that concert for the last time about 10 years ago and now I'm finally able to understand what Freddie is saying in between songs.
The part where he says they won't split and they will stay together until they fucking die... That got a very different meaning today. And just after that they play Who wants to live forever.

Rest in peace Freddie, you had no idea how right you would be.

Ok people

If you're reading this and haven't seen Serenity yet (unlikely for most of my flist but, hey you never know...) go to the nearest cinema and watch it (at least once, more if you feel like it)
Because if you don't: *insert your own most effective threat here*

And have some ice cream, it's on me.

I'd like to state, just for the record, that I miss Hudds, the 2 Thomas Street, Milton Hall, Canal Street, Monday nights, Jonathan Ross, the Blob Shop, the M62, Queensgate, all that we left on Lockwood Road, Dr Who (nine forever :), T4, UCI Huddersfield, the Hollyoaks omnibus on Sunday Morning when you're still half drunk from the previous night... all these things, even more than I thought I would.

It is silly and useless and whatever... Just can't help it. I can't seem to get used to be back for good in France... Not sure I want much to actually :)

That's why I'm gonna go back one last time (at least, in a foreseeable future) for graduation day. Boy, I'm gonna look ridiculous all dressed up with the gown and stuff ^^
I know I said I wouldn't go but I got weak, sue me *g*

I've got broadband, proper, download-all-you-can-eat broadband. And not only that, but it's wireless.
And you know what ? It rocks ! ^^

People, watch me discovering the joy of modern technology :)

I know I haven't updated in ages but I felt like writing tonight.
Maybe because something actually happened today: I quit my temp job.
Because, as everybody knows (ok well you probably don't), I went to my usual temporary work agency when I came back from Spain and they got me that job about 15 mns after I crossed the door.
Job in a warehouse, nothing fancy but still, I needed something while looking for a proper job (you know, the one with the huge wage) and it was as good as anything else.

It's been 7 weeks and to be honest I haven't actually looked as much as I should have.

But... seems that one of the few CV I sent out there got through to someone and I've got an interview next Tuesday. That's the good part
It's in Le Havre, that's the... less good part. Moving away from Paris again when I've only been back for about 2 months... That doesn't really appeal to me.
Then again, I don't really have the luxury to be picky about this. It's not like the job offers were knocking on my door.

Back to my story, I needed two days off to travel and back and the PTB at the warehouse didn't seem ok about it. So here's the part where I quit.

We'll see how it goes on Tuesday. And, even if I blow this one, now that I've got some free time to spare, I'm gonna start looking in a tad more active way. You know like actually answer the job ads and not just look at them ^^

I´m affraid I didn´t bring enough books me with me, 4 days in and I´m already done with "the half blood prince", I´ve got "Les Miroirs Obscurs" left and then... withdrawal symptoms will start. *g*
I knew I should have bring more but the other ones I was reading weren´t mine and I didn´t want to damage them during the trip.
Yep, I´m im Spain, lovely weather, enjoying the beach/swimming pool combo, the little guy, old friends I hadn´t seen in ages and I´m complaining over not having enough books... Ok, I shall stop now :)

Anyway about the "Half Blood Prince", mixed feelings but loved it in the end. Will try to write a quick review at my next stop here. Bloody Internet Cafe, too damn expensive :(
the_swordman: (Good Great All Right)
There's one more little guy on Earth, his mane is Yohan.
He's born last tuesday, 3.550 Kgs (which is some pounds and stones, no idea how much exactly, I've never been able to convert), 51 cms (I'd say about 17 inches), and he's just plain gorgeous.
Mother, brother, father and himself are all well.
And, icing on the cake, this baby got the insane chance to be my nephew. What more could he ask ? :)

I'm taking my other nephew on holiday to Spain with me for three weeks. This way, his mother will have the time to get used to the newest addition to the family :)

For those of you who are back from holiday, good luck on going back to work, for those who are leaving soon, enjoy !

Just a quick survey, about Fan' and Jo's birthday parties. I'm planning to drive to Reims, anybody wants to share a ride with me ? I'm quite flexible on the going day, but I need to be back by Monday evening, the 8th.
Any brave volunteers ?
the_swordman: (Default)
Safely arrived in France yesterday night, spend all my thursday starting to unpack (all my stuff are never gonna fit), visiting family and buying things for the bathroom since I forgot mines in Hudds (stupid me).
I also got myself a new phone 06 63 23 37 15 or 00 33 6 63 23 37 15 from outside France. If everybody needs a ride from the south east on Saturday... Just let me know.

On a more serious note, I heard about London this afternoon. It fucking sucks. I checked on my friends in London and everybody is shocked but safe. I hope it is the case for everybody else here and their friends and loved ones.
The part of me that will never leave England feels awfully bad. All I can say is that pretty much all around the world, people are expressing their solidarity towards the UK and the people of London. I know I am.
the_swordman: (Default)
My computer froze friday night and when I tried to reboot it, I got a message with UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. No idea what that means, it sucks. I'm writing this from the Uni computer room.

So basically my computer is dead unless I find someone competent enough to fiddle with it and fix it or until I format my hard drive... And on top of that, my trusty LW radio is dying on me.
One might think they're trying to tell me something. :)

It's really the end people. And not just the end of my time in England but the ned of my life as student. I never felt any pressure in my jobs because I knew I would eventually go back to Uni, wouldn't have to make a career out of it, even when I dropped out the first time. Now, it's (will be) a whole different ball game.

Anyway, with the packing, things to do and my laptop being dead, I guess this is the last update from England.

"This is Fred Segura, last survivor of the french students in Huddersfield, signing off" :)
the_swordman: (Default)
Just because some people asked. If there's anything you want me to bring back from England (apart from my lovely butt), I mean food, drink, any "english" items.

Speaking about shopping, I would strongly advice people that are throwing a party for their birthdays in august to postponed any DVD, CD or books buying. Thank you very much :)
the_swordman: (Enough)
It's weird, I'm trying to find a funny way to say it but right now my funny muses are on a coffee break (I knew I should leave the funny to Nathan Fillion).
Basically I am now a graduate from the University of Huddersfield and I'm going back to France, definitely (at least in a foreseeable future). I still can't believe I passed everything, I'm waiting for an email from the head of department, something along the lines of "sorry mate, there's been a screw up, you've got to come back next year"... 7 days before I leave... It can still happen :)

So yep, I'm leaving Albion and I would lie if I said that everything was happiness and songs... I kinda got used to my English life and to be even more honest, I had a freedom here, a total lack of responsibilities (mostly family wise) I definitely enjoyed. And it is just about to end.
And I'll have to move back with my folks, which (as much as I love them) sucks beyond the telling of it (for the 3 of us, I'm a bonna fide pain in the ass to live with). And my mom just told me she's retiring... O joy!!! :)
There are things I'm gonna miss, and people too, the friends I made here (yep all 4 of you guys :)

It's gonna be weird to come back to France, I guess some things must have changed. I tried to follow the news and everything but there’s certainly stuff I missed. I’m gonna be an “out of date Frenchman”.
On the plus side, I’m coming back home with some money, the Inland Revenue eventually decided to send me a check and I’ve been working 6 days a week, 10 hours a day for the last… 5 weeks or so. Since Fan left basically. When was that ?
So yep, I’m finally gonna be able to pay my debts.
It was just too little, too late for my dear bank account which was closed following to many bounced direct debits. Is that good timing or what ? :)

Right now, I’m gonna enjoy my last week of freedom and Englishness, say goodbye, play some squash and go on a DVD shopping spree to celebrate the BSc (already did actually, spent 57 quids, I feel bad… but not too much).

Dr Who

That should be the last of my updating frenzy for today.

So, [ profile] fan_elune and myself have been enjoying the new Dr Who series (I must add it's the first for the both of us) and I know some of you share the love :)
That might then be of interest, here's a new community just starting [ profile] dr_challenge. There's already at least one talented icon maker in there, I can vouch for that. Go and join.

Some people doesn't seem really happy with Labour's victory but from what I'm gathered the Tories were an even worse choice. And I actually don't exactly know where the Lib-Dems stand, just that some friends (people my age) seem to feel close to their views.

Discuss :)
Any input would be appreciated.

Back because of general queries on my whereabouts :)

Hard to believe it's been only 2 weeks.

Basically, I hooked up [ profile] fan_elune on Babylon5. Such a great feeling to see someone get into something you deeply care about. She was squeeing and was like, we can't stop now, just another one :).

We then went to a Common Rotation concert in Liverpool where we met [ profile] grimma and her friend Sabine. The concert was nice, not much people but entertaining. I got my picture taken with Adam Busch and took pictures of the girls with pretty much all the guys around :)
Fan' went on a hug frenzy :)

The girls stayed a couple of nights at my place then left for Cardiff. I went back to Liverpool to pick up [ profile] greenie_breizh and her friends, Christophe and Pauline. Jo stayed at Fan' and the other two stayed with me. The topics of conversation were kinda scarce ;) but those guys were really nice. I hope I'll get to see them again.

That's about this moment the convention time began :)
[ profile] fan_elune, [ profile] greenie_breizh, [ profile] heikki_cheren, [ profile] thewatch and myself squeezed ourselves in my car and headed down for Heathrow and the SERENITY convention (even if the weather gods weren't with us, warmest day of the year...)

What a fun week end, the guest were great, parties were crazy (even if some of us prefered to spend time talking with the guests rather than dancing, go figure :), I got to meet in the flesh all the LJers and members of the Starfury board I've been talking to for all this time :)
In no particular order hi to [ profile] brallaqueen, [ profile] ceirdwyn, [ profile] _helygen_, [ profile] thewatch.
We had a double room for 4 but it was okay.
I've got some photos I must finish to upload. I'm halfway there. By the way, if some of you guys don't want me to show your pictures, just tell me so (except for the ones who already did).
There are more comprehensive reviews on my flist for those interested. Particularly these ones

We drove back on monday afternoon (no sun this time but the thickest rain ever :)
After leaving everybody where I was suppose to, I went back home around 8pm, had something to eat and then proceed to study all night since I had my first exam on Tuesday morning, I slept about 2 hours, had a shower and then go to the exam.
According to my flatmates I'm a "fucking lunatic" :)

I had to other exams this week and I'm now enjoying my week end before the last exam on wednesday...

And that is all for now.
the_swordman: (Default)
I haven't been able to go online for the last 7 days or so (weep for me guys).
Right now, I'm trying to get through all the posts on my flist and it seems that LJ doesn't let you go further back than 975 posts.

Anyway, I was hoping to be able to enjoy my broadband connection... turns out it's down... again. Except that, this time, I'm not sure it's a technical issue or a financial one. Misunderstanding between my bank, the provider and myself. Basically I don't have enough money left to pay them, which sucks (but they weren't supposed to turn it off before tomorrow, so I'm not sure which one it is)
Money is coming from France by the end of this week, but it's all I have left. If the Inland Revenue doesn't refund me last year taxes like yesterday, I may be in some troubles.

God bless Universities with free internet access.
